First Person Arts Grand Slam

June 8, 2013 by PBQ

first person artsOnce again, we had a blast at First Person Arts Grand Slam! Choosing the work that will translate best to the page is tricky at best, and often near impossible. I mean, the dramatic tension of running out of toilet paper is hard to convey, maybe especially on stage.

National disasters, car accidents, mother-in-law tension (yep, can be as tough as a national disaster) being dateless at Senior Prom, or a “pity counselor” at sleepaway camp—this is rough stuff.

But the story tellers made us laugh, wince, and think.

Ultimately, we became enamored of Hillary Rea’s tale of interning on the median strip outside the Holland Tunnel and facing down the Blackout of 2003.  Look for it in an upcoming issue!!!!
