Andrew Kozma: Anniversary

Winter’s coming. In Houston, the leaves that remain
green for most of the year litter the ground

like rose petals. I’ve stared at this bud so long in the vase
waiting to catch the bloom at the cusp of breaking

I’ve lost faith in the flower. In my hand, your hand
slowly warming. We are no natural process.
