Shabnam Piryaei

Shabnam is  the author of the novel FORWARD (MUSEUM Books, 2014) and the poetry collection ODE TO FRAGILE (Plain View Press, 2010). Her third book, NOTHING IS WASTED, is forthcoming. Her work has appeared in journals including Poets & Writers and The Florida Review, as well as anthologies such as “Others Will Enter the Gates” (Black Lawrence Press, 2015) and “Mapping Me: A Landscape of Women’s Stories” (Maymona Productions, 2014).

She is the recipient of the Poets & Writers Amy Award for Poetry and the Transport of the Aim Poetry Prize, as well as grants from the Elizabeth George Foundation, the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance, the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund and the Vermont Studio Center. Additionally she has written and directed three award-winning poetry-films that have screened at film festivals and art galleries in the U.S. and internationally.
