Avocado
_________—ending on a lyric by Kevin Cronin
Your love is piano-rocking
a pretty much revolutionary cover of
REO Speedwagon’s “Roll With th Changes”
in my heart, boomeranging
the beats into something more precise than
the song naturally means or matters or “meantters”
(my new unit for measuring us), and the music
you’ve made my mind remake by way of—
what I’m trying to—
how should I put this?—
don’t answer that—
how would you, anyway?—and so anyway, organically
as this poem’s sudden avocado, you throw
a smooth tune, and I throw
a smooth tune, and we boomerang all over
each other and together (and now
look at you mixing my silly metaphors…)
like a sweet sunshower.
