June’s Slam with Warren Longmire a Steamy Start to the Summer!

July 5, 2013 by PBQ

The June 27th Slam at The Pen & Pencil Club, featured readings from the celebrated slam poet, Warren Longmire. Longmire displayed his abilities as an incredibly animated and charming poet, sharing poems on a variety of topics, including technology, summer, sex, love, and his hometown, Philadelphia. In a poem written about the city, Longmire declared, “Philly is all emo with none of the moshpit.” The audience was captivated, and ready to expand their own creativity in the slam after the reading, hosted by a very patient Andrew Keller. Memorable prompts from the slam included, “waxy buffoon freelance,” in which the winner displayed excellent command of the term “douche canoe,” themes such as “lost lust,” and first lines such as “She lit up like a firefly,” from which both bawdy fun and deeply emotional poems and stories ensued. A great deal of fun was had by all and we hope to see you at our next event, on July 26th!
