James Pollock: Ceiling Fan

Seen from below, a white five-petal flower;
in fact, an artist whose medium is air,
who combs it with these pale palette knives hour
on hour, stirring the room, and taking care

to keep this slow whirlpool in circulation.
It gives you the chills, like an erotic spouse.
If you increase the speed of its rotation
it starts to imagine it could lift the house.
