James Arthur: “Study”

August 19, 2019 by PBQ Leave a Comment

Study

no beast of theory
nor mere poet’s creature
roaming the brain’s
savannah eating words no
this is a real
giraffe an American
giraffe at the zoo
two kids stare its hoof pecks
the ground
like the heel of a walking
stick it slow steps
around the yard a living
crane whisking
its tail it shifts
and leans eating the leaves
hoisting its precarious
head before sailing
past the gate eyeing the
trucks what is going
on in its mind
